Refinery Groups meet Wednesday nights during the school year at 6pm in the student buidling.
The topics for the 2011-2012 school year are as follows:
Focus:Students live each day in a world where, more than ever, image rules. Music videos, movies, TV, and marketing create personas and sell them to teenagers. Students' identities seemingly ebb and flow as they navigate these cultural waters. Where can students turn for an anchor in the midst of the chaos? Paul's letter to the Colossians provides just the answer: the person of Christ. Focus challenges students with the straightforward message of Colossians. Jesus is supreme in all the world. And He must be in our lives.
Pure Praise:During this six-week Bible study, students will be challenged to "go extreme" in their worship of God. But it's not their body they'll push to the max. Instead, they'll stretch out their soul. If they accept this challenge, they'll condition their heart and mind in ways they might never have thought possible. As a result, they'll have the privilege of knowing the God of the Universe and worshipping Him more intimately and powerfully than they ever imagined! This study will help students move past the idea of worship as just "singing and praying" and actually connect with God by using practical, daily exercises in praise. It will also instruct students in the biblical standards of why and how they should praise God.
The Pause:Generation Multitask is a fitting label for today's overcommitted, over-entertained teenager. School, band, sports practice, work, volunteering, and hours of "screen time," all create a tremendous drain on teens' time. Where is the time for cultivating their relationship with Christ? The Pause teaches teenagers to "hit pause" and spend time growing their relationship with God. In today's fast paced world these are skills students must have.
